| | Manila, Philippines (updated 11/09/09) In a response to the La Salle’s letter dated September 18, 2009, the Ateneo Golf Foundation has indeed claimed its rightful victory over La Salle in the 2009 Ateneo-La Salle Classic Cup tournament held in Canlubang Golf and Country Club last July 31, 2009. Considering the clear case of misclassification of one of the La Salle players, the AGF has likewise revoked its initial offer of a “No Team Winner” as it finds that its very declaration would be completely unfair to both the deserving winner of the contest, who through no fault of their own, were unjustly deprived of the fruits and glory of their victory as well as the loser, who may have robbed themselves of the opportunity to accept defeat with grace and dignity. The offer of a “No Team Winner” was proposed to LSGC in a closed door meeting held in Club Filipino, Greenhills last August 24, 2009 in an effort to quell any suspicion and controversy to keep the integrity of the 25 year competition alive. Iggy Clavecilla , president of AGF is firm in his position to not “sweep it under the rug” as it would be tantamount to turning a blind eye to a mistake, and worse, being a party to a cover up. The present controversy stems from a Class “A” player who had registered under a different name and was allowed by an LSGC official to be classified into the Open Class, a class clearly set up for those without valid handicap index. The approval of the player was with total disregard of the agreed exceptions handling procedures between both schools and Rule 6.4 of the agreed conditions of play of the tournament.
